“Space, the final frontier. Except, we don’t have cool spaceships because the US government has a bit of a thing for aircraft carriers”
Once I realized that the US military’s budget is so much thicker than NASA’s, I found this topic to be fascinating. If you’re just looking for a video with the same title that inspired me to start thinking about this, it’s further down.
While it isn’t realistic that US government would switch NASA’s and Military’s budget anytime soon, it would be realistic to balance things out a bit.
To be honest, USA doesn’t really need a 600B annual budget for the military. Unless they plan on going to war against China, Russia, India and Serbia* at the same time.
Anyway, US military could easily do well with a $150B cut in their budget, and the entire world would benefit from that. Actually, if a government wants to advance their warfare capabilities in the long run, science might be even better way to go than investing billions into aircraft carriers. Just saying.
