Folding on Ubuntu 16.04 – Command Line Instructions (all errors solved 2018)

April 15, 2018

This guide is for Ubuntu 16.04 Server for x64 platforms. It can also be used for Debian and Mint, but Python Support may be different (just google it, find package and that’s it!)

If you’re stuck with folding@home on Debian, Mint, or Ubuntu comment below and I will try my best to fix it for you.

Note: Must be root user (with sudo commands privilege)

    1. Install Ubuntu 16.04 (Xenial) on your machine or your Virtual Machine.
    2. Run Command Line (terminal)
    3. Copy/paste or type following in this exact order (different color for new line to improve readability):
      wget —no-check-certificate

      wget —no-check-certificate

      wget —no-check-certificate

      sudo dpkg -i —force-depends fahclient_7.4.4_amd64.deb
       – You will now be prompted to input your Username (CaSe SenSiTiVe!),
      – Team number 224497 of course!
      – Your passphrase ( looks like this – 0a7ae5ce63c0d11c5c15c3d39ba240293)
      – You will be now asked to choose between Light, Medium and FULL, use arrows to highlight and enter.
      – You will be asked if you want folding@home client to start automatically – it is highly recommended to do so

      sudo dpkg -i python-support_1.0.15_all.deb

      sudo dpkg -i —force-depends fahcontrol_7.4.4-1_all.deb

      sudo apt-get install -f
You may now be asked to accept changes to your packages, type “Y” then enter.

      sudo dpkg -i —force-depends fahcontrol_7.4.4-1_all.deb

It will still display some dependencies related errors but don’t worry – it’s working.

      Tested 15.4.2018

    4. All done, enjoy folding!
